Made-to-order production for fashion labels and designers

No minimums Made once sold Designer-grade product Production 7–10 business days

The entry problem

The game of fashion is a risky bet.

The minimum defines your collection

No factory will run a style for fewer than a few hundred units, per colour, per size. So the pieces you love most are often the first to go, cut for the numbers rather than as a creative decision.

You fund it before anyone has asked for it

The stock is paid for months before a customer sees it. The capital is yours, the guess is yours, and so is whatever does not sell.

You discount what missed, and teach customers to wait

The pieces that did not move get marked down to clear the space. You lose the margin once, and you lose it again next season when the customer holds out for the sale.

The correction

Sell it first, then make it.

No minimums

Run one piece or one hundred.

Here there is no minimum. The difficult piece, the one you could never order five hundred of, goes in. The collection your customer sees is the one you actually wanted.

No stock bought up front

Nothing is made until your customer buys.

Production starts once the piece is bought, so there is no stock to buy and no warehouse to fill.

The money that would have funded the stock, and the discounting needed to clear it, goes into the brand instead. It pays for marketing, the next collection and better cloth. That money keeps working for you instead of sitting in a box.

Nothing to discount

Nothing is left to mark down.

You cannot be left holding what did not sell, because it was never made. There is no end-of-season clearance to write, no margin handed back to move dead stock.

The second cost is the one labels rarely count. Every sale trains the customer to wait for the next one. Full price stays full price, and the brand keeps the value you built into it.

The end-to-end ecosystem

From concept to the customer's door.

Most labels build a collection through many different suppliers, before they add marketing, PR, photographers and the rest. Holding them all together costs you margin, and it takes time away from designing. DAKUTX offers the full ecosystem. You keep the design, use only the parts you need, and add more as you scale.

The offer

Bring your label into made-to-order production.

Work with DAKUTX to define the products, manufacturing requirements and platform services your label needs. Start with an agreed range and a clear commercial scope, then receive a written proposal setting out what is included, what costs extra and how the program launches.

What your proposal covers

Styles and product categories included in the program. Existing designs you supply and any separately agreed development work. Available fabrics, measurement requirements and product specifications. Storefront or ordering workflow, authorised users and reporting. Sampling, production, fulfilment and support responsibilities. Ownership of existing designs and rights in any newly developed work.

Platform fee
From A$299 per month + GST

Onboarding begins after the agreement is signed and the agreed onboarding fee is paid. Monthly platform billing starts only when the agreed vendor storefront is live and launched. Approximately eight weeks from signing is a planning estimate, subject to the agreed scope, required materials and approvals. Your proposal itemises every charge, and the total depends on your scope.

Before you ask

What it costs

Your proposal separates onboarding, samples and development, monthly platform services, garment production, delivery and any additional integration or custom work. The applicable charges, billing frequency, term and cancellation process are stated before you commit.

Whose fabric

Bring your own mill or use ours. Your cloth is not limited to what the platform happens to stock, and a fabric minimum does not reintroduce the order minimum you came here to avoid.

Where it is made

Production is undertaken through DAKUTX’s approved manufacturing network, with core production currently based in China.

Who makes it

DAKUTX works with approved production partners selected for relevant manufacturing capability and quality requirements.

Who sees your patterns

We understand the importance of your unique IP and point of view. Your patterns and your tech packs remain your property. We never use them for our own pieces or for another label.

If it is wrong

If a garment is produced incorrectly or materially outside the confirmed order specifications, DAKUTX will work to correct the issue, including remake where appropriate. Issues arising from incorrect measurements supplied, subsequent measurement changes or preference changes may incur additional charges. Nothing in this policy limits rights available under applicable consumer law.

The DAKUTX process

Six steps, start to doorstep.

01

Start with a call

We work out what you need. That might be the full range, or one trial collection to see how it lands.

02

Read the proposal

You get the scope in writing. It sets out the range, what is included, what is charged separately and who does each step.

03

Sign it

Onboarding starts once you sign. Nothing begins before that.

04

Send the pack

Your tech pack, your patterns and your fabric direction. One style is enough to start.

05

Sample and fit

We make the first piece and engineer the pattern digitally, so later pieces are cut from the approved pattern.

06

Sell, then make

Your collection goes live. Production is triggered by the order, then shipped direct in your packaging.

How it started

Our story.

DAKUTX is founded and led by Daniel Avakian, one of Australia’s leading fashion designers. He trained in Florence, worked in London under Alexander McQueen and Giles Deacon, and has run his own label out of Sydney since 2007.

Two decades of running that label hit the same wall every season, and the wall was the minimum order. So he spent several years building the production system underneath it.

Daniel and his team of pattern engineers and production managers run the making, with DAKUTX’s approved manufacturing network behind them. Brand and marketing people work alongside the labels who want that.

Bring your own collection, or have it designed with you. Either way, what you make is yours.

Start with a call.

One call to work out what you actually need. For some labels that is the full range, brand and marketing built alongside the making. For others it is a trial collection, made once, to see how it lands.
